Kleinzee " More than a Diamond"

Yes it is off the beaten track, and all roads to Kleinzee are dirt roads , but the towns on the Diamond coast has a beauty and charm of their own.Shipwrecks scattered along the coast are testament to the volatile ocean. A 4x4 off road tour reveals all.The cold Benguela Current is the eastern boundary current of the South Atlantic and starts in Cape of Good Hope up to Angola. The Benguela current originates in the Antarctic regions and carries dense polar water up the Southern African west coast. Driven by the powerful South Easterly Trade winds this current also plays a central role in the marine ecology of the west coast. Diversity of underwater life (both in terms of fish and plant life) is a defining characteristic of the coastal area. The biggest mainland seal colonies on earth are found in the Benguela-fed shorelines, as well as mass populations of seabirds, cape penguins and fish species that feed thousands of South Africans. In terms of plant life, the gargantuan Atlantic kelp is a pervasive feature of the seascape. A great place to stay when you want view the Namaqua Land flowers in August. Temperature fluctuations between winter and summer are considerable, and, despite high summer temperatures, the humidity along the west coast is very much lower than levels experienced along the east coast.Kleinzee normally receives about 42mm of rain per year and because it receives most of its rainfall during winter it has a Mediterranean climate. It receives the lowest rainfall (0mm) in January and the highest (9mm) in May. The average midday temperatures for Kleinzee range from 19.7°C in July to 27.2°C in February. The region is the coldest during July when the mercury drops to 8°C on average during the night. Kleinzee is a secure little town with warm friendly sociable people.
